What “Die-Cut” Actually Means

The cut line follows the outline of your design. A round logo comes back round. An arrow comes back arrow-shaped. There’s no rectangle of leftover backing around the edge, so the sticker reads as the shape itself once it’s on a toolbox or a truck window.

That’s different from a standard shape sticker, where your art sits inside a square or circle with visible background around it. It’s also different from name flag sticker sheets, which put a set of smaller stickers on one backing sheet you peel from as you go.

Die-cutting is the right pick when the silhouette of your logo is doing the work. If your mark is already a solid rectangle or circle, you won’t see much difference.

What Ours Are Made Of

We print on 2.75 mil high-opacity vinyl, made in the USA, and laminate every sticker. The laminate is the part that matters outdoors: it keeps the ink from fading and the surface from scuffing. You pick the laminate finish — gloss or matte. Everything is printed and cut right here in Phoenix, then packed before it ships.

Built this way, they’re rated for up to 6 years outdoors. A local construction crew runs ours on their hard hats — through Arizona summer heat, sun, dirt, and water — and they’ve held up. That’s about as hard a test as this material gets.

The per-sticker price drops hard with volume. A 2″ sticker works out to about $1.20 each at 50 and about 23 cents each at 1,000. If you’re handing them out at events, the bigger run is the better buy.

Getting Your Artwork Ready

Die-cutting adds one consideration that regular printing doesn’t: the blade has to follow your outline, so the shape of your art matters as much as what’s inside it. The good news is you don’t have to guess — our sticker builder draws a die-cut line around any image you upload, and you can tighten or loosen the contour and see it live before you order.

• Cuts cleanly: solid shapes with a defined edge. Logos, badges, lettering with some weight to it, anything with a clear silhouette.
• Causes trouble: long thin spikes, hairline tails, and skinny protrusions. Those are fragile once cut and can lift or tear when someone peels the sticker. Loosening the contour around them usually solves it.
• Watch your size: fine detail that reads fine on screen can disappear at 2 inches. Size up, or simplify.
• Send vector if you have it: .ai, .eps, or .pdf. A high-resolution .png with a transparent background works too.

Check the edges of your artwork before you order, and size up if you’re unsure. Thin spikes and tiny detail are the two things that cause most reprints — and both are easy to catch in the builder, where you can see the cut line and adjust the contour before you buy.
