Custom Straw Hats: How to Get Your Logo on a Sun Hat
A custom straw hat is a natural straw sun hat with your logo on a leatherette patch, permanently bonded to the front. We make ours to order here in Phoenix. You send us a logo, we send back a proof, and nothing gets built until you've signed off on it.
Custom sun hats with logo have become one of our busiest summer products, and the questions we get are almost always the same four. Here's what the hat is, which logos engrave cleanly, what it costs, and how ordering works.
What Is a Custom Straw Hat?

Start with the blank. Our natural straw sun hat is 100% straw with a 16" to 17" brim, an elastic insert in the sweatband so it holds across a range of head sizes, and a rope strap for wind. Closer to a lifeguard or beach hat than a cowboy hat.
The custom part is the patch, and we make it three ways.
-
Laser-engraved leatherette burns your design into the material, so nothing sits on the surface to peel or crack. This one is single color: your logo comes out as one burned tone against the patch color.
-
UV printed patches can be detailed and full color. The inks cure hard and can carry texture or even a spot gloss varnish, so a detailed logo comes through as drawn.
-
Embroidered patches are stitched in full color, with the raised thread look.
All three get bonded permanently to the crown. It's the same patch range we put on our snapbacks and truckers: the straw hat is a different canvas for it.
One thing to know up front: engraving is a single-color process. Your logo comes out as one burned tone against the patch color. A four-color logo does not stay four colors unless you go with the UV printed option.
Where Branded Straw Hats Get Worn

Lake and boat days are the biggest one by volume. Landscaping crews, horse stables, and ranches order them for the same reason we wear them in Arizona: a wide brim beats a ball cap when you're outside for eight hours. We also get families and friend groups heading somewhere warm who want matching hats for the trip.
Breweries and coffee shops run them as summer merch that sells at the counter, and plenty of people order one as a client gift, on the logic that a hat gets kept and a pen gets lost.
For summer events and the Fourth, the USA flag straw hat has the flag printed under the brim and still takes your patch on the front, and the kids' straw hat comes with an adjustable drawstring.
How to Choose Your Patch Color
The patch color changes the look more than anything else, and it's the choice people spend the least time on. We stock 20 leatherette colors. Here's how they sort out.
|
Patch |
What it looks like |
Best for |
|
Rawhide |
Tan leather. Artwork burns dark against it with strong contrast. |
Almost any logo. Pick this one if you're unsure. |
|
Black gold, black silver, white gold |
Metallic-looking design on a dark base. |
Logos with finer lines. Reads more polished. |
|
Solids: dark brown, gray, white, red, blue, kelly green, orange, purple, pink, yellow |
Flat color, clean burn. |
Matching a brand color. |
|
Camo: camo, orange camo, duck camo, arctic camo |
Patterned background. |
Plain wordmarks and simple shapes. The texture competes with fine detail. |
|
Textured: football texture, silver carbon |
Patterned surface. |
Giving a plain wordmark some character. |
|
No patch |
Plain straw hat. |
Everyday |
Two worth repeating: camo and the football texture both fight with a busy logo. If your mark has a lot of detail, put it on a solid color, or go with a UV printed patch instead.
Getting Your Logo Right

This is where most first orders come back for a revision, so it's worth reading before you upload anything specifically for a laser engraved patch design.
-
Works well: bold shapes, thick lines, solid silhouettes, one-color wordmarks, clean type at a readable weight. Anything you could picture as a stamp.
-
Causes problems: tiny text, thin hairlines, gradients, drop shadows, photos, and any logo that uses color to separate two elements. A blue circle behind a green mountain collapses into one tone, and the mountain disappears.
-
Best file types: vector, so .ai, .eps, or .pdf. A high-resolution .png, .jpg, or .psd usually works too.
If your logo has a detail problem, tell us, and we'll simplify it on the proof. That's a normal step. Most brands end up with a slightly stripped-down version of their mark for engraved products, and it almost always looks better on the hat than the full logo would.
How to Order Custom Straw Hats With Your Logo

A natural straw sun hat with a custom engraved patch is $39.99. The same hat blank with no patch is $29.99. The flag and kids' versions start at $34.99. Shipping is free in the lower 48.
No setup fees, no minimum order. One hat is a real order; we engrave a single patch the same way we'd engrave sixty. That's what cutting and pressing in-house gets you.
The order runs like this:
-
Pick your hat and patch color.
-
Upload your logo or design file.
-
Choose your quantity and check out.
-
We email you a digital proof, usually within 24 hours.
-
You approve it, and we build the hat.
Nothing goes into production before you've seen the proof. If the patch color looks wrong or the logo needs to be bigger, that's the moment to say so.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do custom straw hats cost?
A custom straw sun hat with an engraved leatherette patch is $39.99, with free shipping in the lower 48. The blank hat with no patch is $29.99. No setup fees, no minimum order.
Can I order just one?
Yes. We have no minimum. We engrave and press in-house in Phoenix, so a single hat runs the same process as a bulk order. Plenty of our first-time orders are one hat.
What size are they?
One size fits most. The brim is 16" to 17" across, and the elastic insert in the sweatband lets it stretch across a range of head sizes. There's a separate children's straw hat with an adjustable drawstring.
Can I get any of your sun hats with my logo on it?
Yes. Every hat in our custom sun hats range takes the same laser-engraved leatherette patch, so your logo goes on the adult hat, the kids' hat, and the flag version alike.
Do you make a straw hat for kids?
Yes. The children's version comes with an adjustable drawstring and takes the same laser-engraved patch as the adult hats.
Will my logo look the same on the patch?
Yes, if you go with a UV printed or embroidered patch. Both hold full color, so a multi-color logo stays multi-color. Laser engraved leatherette is the single-color option: your design burns into the patch as one tone. Tell us which you want and you'll see it on the proof before we make anything.
If You Only Remember Two Things
Keep the artwork simple, and pick rawhide if you're stuck. That combination works on almost every logo we run, and you'll see it on a proof before we build anything.
Send us your logo, and we'll show you what it looks like on a straw hat before anything's made.
